Frank Schwarzer set up business in 1992, and now is based in a 450 sq m dedicated facility at Wesel, Germany, close to the heart of the European pipejacking region. This geographical proximity has helped the company develop a special area of expertise in surveying curved tunnel and pipejack drives, having supplied nearly 200 pipejacking and microtunnelling projects involving some 90 km of installations. These have been driven on a variety of different radii, severely testing the capability of Schwarzer survey equipment.

SDV-LSW is a simple, favourably priced, modular design system for data acquisition and tunnel drive control. A laser with electronic hose levelling equipment enables precise, refraction-free control of straight pipe drives, providing information about position, height, direction, inclination and roll.

SAS22 is a system for alignment and control of tunnel boring which enables horizontally and vertically curved advance using precise control information on position, direction, inclination and roll. SAS22 is so accurate that it reduces check surveys by up to 90%.

SDV13 is an additional option to the SAS22 and SDV-LSW for several data acquisition purposes such as pressure of the main jacking station and the interjacking stations and stroke of the steering cylinders.

SDV-WW is an electronic hose levelling instrument for precise elevation determination in pipejacking advances.

Schwarzer has also developed communication systems specifically for tunnel and construction sites. Tunnel intercom systems can be installed at any desired location. Video monitoring of any area can be undertaken using strategically-placed and well-protected mini-cameras which can record more than a week's activity on a single cassette.

Schwarzer also provides tailor-made solutions for special problems associated with lengths, pressures, controls and quantities in pipejacking and microtunnelling.
