Sam was instrumental in setting up tunnelbuilder.com in 1999, and took up her executive directorship of tunnelbuilder ltd on a full time basis in 2004. In the last five years she has grown the business with the launch of tunnelbuilder.it and tunneljobs.com, and the relaunch of tunnelintelligence.com as a safety promotion vehicle. Sales offices have been opened in Milan, Madrid, London and Las Vegas, and readership is now well past 750,000/year. tunnelbuilder.com is now updated daily, and the archive contains over 5,000 entries searchable by project and country. Nowadays, virtually all reports are translated into Spanish at tunnelbuilder.es and Italian at tunnelbuilder.it, and RSS feeds are available for readers, while advertisers can check clickthroughs advertising at the touch of a button.
Olaia is a geologist who graduated in Spain in 2001. Her first job was a university-based research project on the oceanographic ship Hesperides. This was followed by a stint in the geotechnics department of engineering company Prointec, on road and railway projects. A period of five years was then spent with the same company working on tunnels, with an emphasis on the high-speed railway line between Córdoba and Málaga, which is now in service. A construction company called Urazca employed me until I became responsible for tunnelbuilder.es serving 150,000 readers/year in the Spanish-speaking world. The mix of tunnels, editorial, translation and advertising is not for everybody, but Olaia has the right background to make it work. Look out for Olaia at Intermat in Paris, where you can have a chat with her in Spanish, French or English….or e-mail her at olaia@tunnelbuilder.es
